Mjällby AIF secured an important victory on Sunday afternoon when they faced GAIS at Strandvallen A-plan in the Allsvenskan. In front of a crowd of 4,049 spectators, the match began with a substitution for Mjällby AIF, as Johan Svensson left the field. Shockingly, the team from Gästrikland was awarded a penalty in the tenth minute of the match, but GAIS's Fredrik Lundgren shot wide of the goal. Instead, it was Mjällby AIF's top scorer, Marcus Ekenberg, who took the opportunity in the 24th minute and scored the opening goal of the match. Ekenberg then increased the lead five minutes into the second half, and the match became increasingly physical. With 20 minutes left in the game, Ekenberg was awarded a penalty and completed his hat trick by putting the ball in the net – 3-0 for the home team. GAIS then received a series of yellow cards towards the end of the match, and Mjällby AIF maintained their lead to win the game.
