Helsingborgs IF hosted Gefle IF FF at home on Olympia on Saturday afternoon. The approximately 8000 spectators witnessed a very open match that ultimately ended with a victory for HIF with a score of 3-1.
The match started evenly, but it was HIF that took the lead after 15 minutes of play when Alexander Gerndt scored. Before halftime, Gefle IF FF replaced Olof Mård with Omar Jawo in their search for an equalizer.
In the second half, it was once again Alexander Gerndt who was in action, extending HIF's lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute. Gefle IF FF tried to battle their way back into the game, but the substitutions of Hans Berggren and Hjalmar Öhagen did not turn the tide.
Instead, HIF's coach made changes on his side and substituted Erik Edman for May Mahlangu in the 76th minute to disrupt Gefle IF FF's momentum. This led to a goal by Yussif Alhassan Chibsah in the 78th minute, but it was not enough for the away team.
Instead, it was Alexander Gerndt who completed his hat-trick and confirmed the final score at 3-1 in the 80th minute. HIF's coach substituted Gerndt in the 82nd minute to deserving applause from the crowd, finishing the match with substitutions of Johan Eiswohld and Rafael Porcellis de Oliveira.
Referee Michael Lerjéus showed no cards during the fair and entertaining match where HIF ultimately won by a two-goal margin.
