IF Elfsborg managed to break their losing streak by defeating Djurgården 1-0 at Stockholm Stadion 1 on Thursday evening. The match had a rather low tempo, with both teams feeling the nerves.
Djurgården started the match strongly with several goal-scoring chances. However, it was IF Elfsborg who found the net when Lars Nilsson scored in the 79th minute after a nice pass from Johan Larsson. This was Nilsson's second goal of the season, and it gave the team an important lead in a match where there weren't many chances.
Djurgården desperately tried to equalize at the end of the match, but their efforts could not produce a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Instead, they had two players sent off, Kebba Ceesay in the 71st minute and Petter Gustafsson in the 88th minute.
IF Elfsborg, on the other hand, managed to keep their nerves in the closing stages of the match and even brought on David Elm as a substitute in the 90th minute when Daniel Nordmark went off.
Djurgården is now second to last in the standings, while IF Elfsborg is in an impressive second place. It was a significant victory for Elfsborg and a disappointment for Djurgården, who will need to start earning more points if they want to avoid relegation.
