Swedish champions AIK faced a tough match against second-placed IF Elfsborg at home at Råsunda on Wednesday evening. It turned out to be a match filled with excitement and nerves, with several heated moments and two teams fighting hard for three points.
IF Elfsborg was the first team to assert themselves when Viktor Claesson received the ball on the left flank in the 24th minute and, after a fine run, sent the ball into the net behind the AIK goalkeeper. The home team quickly responded, however, when Martin Lorentzson won the ball and, after a nice combination play with Martin Kayongo-Mutumba, was able to equalize in the 56th minute.
During the match, four players were cautioned for their hard tackles, and AIK opted to make three substitutions in an attempt to secure a victory. IF Elfsborg also made one substitution at halftime and another later in the match.
Despite several dangerous chances on both sides, no further goals were scored, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Both teams can be satisfied with the result, but AIK will likely feel that they should have won at home in front of their enthusiastic crowd of 14,609. As usual, Allsvenskan showed how tough and competitive the league is, and both AIK and IF Elfsborg leave with one point each ahead of their upcoming matches.
