Elfsborg pulled ahead already in the first half with two goals scored by Lars Nilsson and Anders Svensson. However, Mjällby did not give up and reduced the deficit just before halftime through Craig Henderson. In the second half, Mjällby really came to life and managed to equalize with Henderson's second goal of the evening, assisted by Viktor Agardius. But the joy was short-lived as Viktor Claesson quickly made it 3-2 for Elfsborg, assisted by Stefan Ishizaki. Mjällby’s attempts to get back into the game put pressure on Elfsborg, but they managed to hold on and win 3-2. Cautions were issued on both sides, including to Mjällby's Marcus Ekenberg and Robin Cederberg, as well as Elfsborg's Joakim Jørgensen.
