Malmö FF faced IF Elfsborg at home at Swedbank Stadion in Allsvenskan on Monday evening, in front of an audience of 13,821 spectators. The referee, Stefan Johannesson, officiated the match with assistance from Magnus Sjöblom and Stefan Hallberg.
Just 24 minutes into the game, the first goal was scored by Malmö FF, taking a 1–0 lead through Jiloan Mohamed Hamad, assisted by Ricardo Ferreira Da Silva. IF Elfsborg attempted to make a comeback, and just before halftime, the team scored their first goal. Mohamed Bangura found the net, with Stefan Ishizaki providing the assist to make it 1–1.
In the second half, Malmö FF made two substitutions: Magnus Eriksson replaced Dardan Rexhepi, and Petar Petrovic replaced Emil Forsberg. However, none of the substitutions changed the scoreline, and it wasn't until the 76th minute that Malmö FF regained the lead through Tokelo Rantie, who scored their second goal of the match.
The match continued, and the first yellow card went to Malmö FF's Simon Thern in the 77th minute. Then, IF Elfsborg made another substitution, with Viktor Claesson replacing Stefan Larsson in the 73rd minute. In the 82nd minute, IF Elfsborg made their final substitution, bringing David Elm on for James Keene.
Malmö FF also made a substitution towards the end of the match, with Benjamin Annan Fadi replacing Tokelo Rantie in the 90th minute. However, not much happened thereafter, and Malmö FF won the match 2–1. Magnus Eriksson received a yellow card in the 90th minute, and Jiloan Mohamed Hamad also received a yellow card in the 92nd minute of stoppage time.
