Djurgården hosted IF Elfsborg at Tele2 Arena on September 1 in Allsvenskan, and despite a close match, it was the visitors who came out on top with a 1-2 victory.
Just 30 minutes into the game, IF Elfsborg took the lead with a goal from Mikkel Beckmann, who was set up by Stefan Ishizaki. Djurgården fought for an equalizer and had a chance to get back into the match when Emil Bergström scored for the home team after an assist from Andreas Johansson in the 57th minute.
IF Elfsborg made two substitutions in the 63rd minute when Anders Svensson and Lars Nilsson came on for Niklas Hult and James Keene. However, it was Djurgården who continued to have momentum in the match, executing a substitution with Haris Radetinac coming on for Simon Tibbling in the 70th minute, which almost gave them the lead.
That evening, however, luck was on IF Elfsborg's side, as Mohamed Bangura was substituted in during the 81st minute. Just nine minutes later, he scored, bringing the final score to 1-2, with another assist from Ishizaki. Djurgården did not give up and pushed for a late equalizer, but it was in vain.
Bojan Pandzic was the main referee for the match, with Stefan Hallberg and Daniel Ekman as his assistants. After the match, Djurgården was in 10th place in the table while IF Elfsborg was in 6th place. The match served to encourage increased effort and teamwork on both sides ahead of upcoming matches.
