It was an exciting match at Strandvallen A-plan as Mjällby AIF faced IF Elfsborg. Mjällby took the lead in the fourth minute when Pär Eriksson put the ball in the net with an assist from Mahmut Özen. Mjällby continued to press, but received their first warning when Marcus Ekenberg was booked in the 24th minute.
Unfortunately, things went from bad to worse for Mjällby when Gbenga Arokoyo was sent off in the same minute, and following a counterattack from Elfsborg, Lars Nilsson was awarded a penalty which he scored. 1-1 in the 24th minute. After that, Elfsborg scored their second goal in the 38th minute through Sebastian Holmén, leaving Mjällby’s coach with a lot to address during the halftime talk.
The second half started well for Mjällby when Pär Eriksson scored his second goal of the match, assisted by Craig Henderson, equalizing to 2-2 in the 60th minute. After that, it was a close match, with both teams fighting for the win. IF Elfsborg received a red card in the 74th minute when Lars Nilsson received his second yellow card and had to leave the field. Despite both teams putting in their best efforts, the match ultimately ended in a draw with a final score of 2-2.
The match featured good football, but Mjällby AIF will feel robbed of the victory after having played with one man less for almost the entire match. The spectators were happy with the result, and the match was played in front of an audience of 4,004 people. Referee Andreas Ekberg and his assistants Magnus Sjöblom and Mikael Hallin did a great job in an intense match.
