Despite high expectations from the home crowd at Strömvallen, Gefle IF FF failed to take any points against visiting IF Elfsborg in the final match of the Allsvenskan season. After a few chances for both teams, it was Elfsborg that took the lead in the 36th minute through Anton Lans, assisted by Adam Lundqvist. Gefle tried to apply pressure on the visitors after this goal but were unable to equalize.
During halftime, Gefle's coach opted to substitute Mikael Dahlberg for Jonas Olsson in hopes of changing the game. However, it was Elfsborg that managed to extend their lead in the 63rd minute through Marcus Rohdén. Gefle again attempted to create chances but to no avail. The guests later made a substitution, replacing Mikkel Beckmann with Andréas Klarström. Gefle tried to score a consolation goal but were unsuccessful, and the match ended in a loss for the home team.
This meant that the season was over for both Gefle and Elfsborg, and both teams could look back on a decent season with Gefle finishing in 12th place in the table and Elfsborg in 6th. Referee Johan Hamlin, along with assistant referees Peter Allheim and Jan-Erik Swärdh, did not have to adjudicate any major situations during the match, which made their job easier. A total of 2,527 spectators attended the match and witnessed a competitive game where Elfsborg ultimately came out on top.
