AIK won a well-played match on Thursday evening against IF Elfsborg, who fought until the last moment. The attendance at Friends Arena was 13,140 and the referee was Jonas Eriksson, who did a good job despite some protests from both teams.
The match started evenly with both teams pressing high and trying to create chances. However, it was AIK who took the lead after just under half an hour when Nabil Bahoui tapped in a rebound from a shot by Chibuike Kennedy Igboananike. This was Bahoui's third goal of the season.
IF Elfsborg found it difficult to create chances in the first half, but after the break, they came out stronger. After about an hour of play, Marcus Rohdén equalized for the guests with a long-range shot deflected in by an AIK defender. Per Frick broke through on the flank and delivered a hard cross that Rohdén met perfectly.
AIK responded quickly by bringing on Eero Markkanen and Kenny Pavey, both of whom proved to be important for the team. Pavey scored an unusual header with just a few minutes left in the game, following a well-placed corner from Martin Lorentzson. Anton Salétros was substituted in for AIK at the last minute and effectively played out the remaining time.
No more goals were scored, and AIK won the match 2-1 in front of a satisfied home crowd. IF Elfsborg fought hard but could not earn any points at Friends Arena. Among other things, Celso Borges Mora received a yellow card for AIK in stoppage time after having committed too many fouls. It was a well-played match with good pace and beautiful football!
