Halmstad BK and Kalmar FF played a tight match on Saturday afternoon at Örjans Vall. The home team Halmstad was in desperate need of points to move away from the bottom of the table while Kalmar was trying to build on their more positive form in recent matches.
The match started calmly, but the pace picked up quickly. Kalmar received the first yellow card in the 26th minute when Ludvig Öhman Silwerfeldt made a tough tackle on a Halmstad player. Minutes before halftime, it was Halmstad's James Keene who received a yellow card for a clumsy tackle.
The second half began just as intensely, and Kalmar chose to substitute Romario Pereira Sipiao for Tobias Eriksson in the 57th minute. However, it was Halmstad that found the goal in the 62nd minute when James Keene finally scored with a header from Jesper Westerberg’s assist. Kalmar received their second yellow card when Marcus Gotte fouled a Halmstad player in the 62nd minute.
Kalmar attempted to refresh and rejuvenate their team by substituting both Ludvig Öhman Silwerfeldt and Papa Alioune Diouf in the 66th minute with Filip Sachpekidis and David Elm. However, they were unsuccessful in pressing forward against Halmstad. Snorre Krogsgård came on for Halmstad in the 71st minute and Alexander Berntsson replaced Kristoffer Fagercrantz in the 82nd minute to try and maintain their lead.
James Keene received a much-needed rest when he was substituted for Eric Smith in the closing minutes of the match. Thanks to the goal in the 62nd minute, it was Halmstad who won the match 1-0.
Halmstad will be pleased with their first victory in recent matches, while Kalmar will need to work harder to strengthen their defense and attempt to challenge their opponents.
