It was an intense match from the start, and already in the 20th minute, Athletic Eskilstuna's Chidi Dauda Omeje received a yellow card. Shortly thereafter, Djurgården's Magnus Eriksson was also booked. However, it was Djurgården who scored the first goal in the match when Aliou Badji headed in a ball in the 30th minute after an assist from Kevin Walker.

In the 42nd minute, Mohamed Buya Turay picked up a yellow card for Athletic Eskilstuna, and not much else happened during the first half. But in the second half, Djurgården managed to score a second goal in the 51st minute when Othman El Kabir found the net with an assist from Kerim Mrabti.

Athletic Eskilstuna needed to catch up with two goals and substituted Simon Alexandersson and Sasa Matic in the 67th minute. Djurgården's Aliou Badji was substituted out in the 74th minute and replaced by Jesper Karlström. With only 12 minutes left in the match, Chidi Dauda Omeje was substituted out for Athletic Eskilstuna, and Aaron Zahui Bazoukou came on.

Athletic Eskilstuna eventually managed to narrow the score with Mohamed Buya Turay scoring his second goal of the evening in the 78th minute. However, it was not enough to earn a point, and the match ended 2-1 in favor of Djurgården after a match full of action, including two late yellow cards in stoppage time, one for Jesper Karlström of Djurgården and another for Alireza Haghighi of Athletic Eskilstuna. Johan Krantz was the main referee for the match, assisted by linesmen Jan-Erik Swärdh and Niklas Nyberg.
