Halmstad secured an important victory at home against IFK Norrköping FK on Saturday afternoon at Örjans Vall. Despite the guests from Norrköping being the better team for large parts of the match, the home team managed to come out on top, ultimately winning 2-1.
The match began with a rather cautious playing style, as both teams were tentative in their attacks. However, after half an hour of play, it was IFK Norrköping FK that first got a shot off, but Viktor Göthlin in Halmstad's goal saved the attempt without much trouble.
After a few more minutes of play, the home team was awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area. Höskuldur Gunnlaugsson took the kick, which reached Alexander Berntsson in the box, and he headed the ball in for a 1-0 lead for Halmstad after 40 minutes.
Early in the second half, Halmstad then increased their lead when Aboubakar Keita set up Tryggvi Hrafn Haraldsson, who easily placed the ball into the net behind IFK Norrköping's goalkeeper with a well-placed shot after 51 minutes.
The guests from Norrköping tried everything they could to get a goal back, playing with great fervor for the remainder of the match. After 88 minutes, they managed to score a goal, as Linus Wahlqvist Egnell converted the rebound from an Alexander Jakobsen free kick.
But it was not enough to bring any points back to Norrköping. The match ended 2-1 in favor of Halmstad, who thereby secured their second victory of the season. IFK Norrköping FK remains in fifth place in the table, while Halmstad climbs one spot up to twelfth place.
