AIK secured a much-needed victory in Sunday’s heated Stockholm derby against Djurgården. With over 30,000 eyes on Friends Arena, it was AIK who started the strongest. Already after 14 minutes, Djurgården was forced to make an early substitution as Aliou Badji replaced Kerim Mrabti. However, it was AIK that would score the first goal of the match when Rasmus Lindkvist found the net in the 16th minute with an assist from Henok Goitom.

Djurgården did everything to get back into the game, but it was AIK that continued to dominate. Both Fredrik Ulvestad and Jonas Olsson were shown yellow cards, while AIK’s Daniel Sundgren and Kristoffer Olsson also received yellow cards.

In the second half, AIK maintained their dominance and scored a second goal when Tarik Elyounoussi made it 2-0 with an assist from Henok Goitom in the 46th minute. Djurgården fought hard to recover, but to no avail. Instead, AIK was able to finish the match strongly with three substitutions, including the earlier match hero Elyounoussi being replaced by Denni Avdic in the 86th minute.

The match also featured late drama when Djurgården’s Yura Movsisyan was sent off with a red card in the 90th minute. He also received a yellow card along with AIK’s Rasmus Lindkvist and Djurgården’s Aliou Badji.

In the end, AIK secured a well-deserved victory against their arch-rivals from the south, while Djurgården remains in the middle of the Allsvenskan standings.
