Friday night and Gamla Ullevi was packed with 9,357 other soccer fans. Allsvenskan rivals IFK Göteborg and IK Sirius FK were on hand to battle each other in a tense yet exciting match.
Referee Glenn Nyberg blew the whistle to start the match and both teams began with their heads held high on the field. IFK Göteborg was more aggressive from the start, but IK Sirius FK fought back and created a few good chances early in the game.
In the 29th minute, IFK Göteborg’s 26. André Calisir received a yellow card for a poorly timed tackle. Shortly after that, IK Sirius FK’s midfielder 8. Tim Björkström also received a yellow card for a similar foul.
Towards the end of the first half, IK Sirius FK made a substitution - In: 90. Moses Orwohicho Ogbu, Out: 11. Charbel Georges - in an effort to increase the pressure on IFK Göteborg. But it was the newly arrived 10. Patrik Karlsson Lagemyr who scored the first goal for the home team in the 47th minute with a fine assist from 24. Sebastian Ohlsson.
IFK Göteborg continued to dominate the match, and in the 57th minute, Ohlsson redeemed himself and scored after a setup from 22. Giorgi Kharaishvili. However, on the field, IK Sirius FK worked hard to make a comeback.
In the 65th minute, IFK Göteborg made two substitutions - In: 16. Sargon Abraham and 3. Billy Nordström, Out: 10. Patrik Karlsson Lagemyr and 20. Victor Wernersson - in hopes of relieving the pressure. But in the 69th minute, IK Sirius FK also made two substitutions - In: 26. Mohammed Khalid Saeid and 9. Jonas Lindberg, Out: 14. Ian Sirelius and 19. Christer Gustafsson - and Moses Orwohicho Ogbu took the opportunity and scored a goal in the 65th minute, assisted by 4. Oscar Pehrsson.
To the audience's great surprise, Philip Haglund scored a header in the 80th minute for IK Sirius FK, and the match was now tied. IFK Göteborg responded by substituting in 7. Tobias Hysén for 11. Amin Affane in the 85th minute, but it did not have the desired effect.
IK Sirius FK, which continued to fight, scored the decisive goal in the 87th minute through 15. Sam Lundholm. IFK Göteborg desperately tried to come back but could not prevent the last goal.
The match ended with a 2-3 victory for IK Sirius FK, and both teams had played fantastic soccer. Referee Glenn Nyberg, along with assistant referees Tobias Wärn and Niclas Ivarsson, did a great job keeping both teams under control and are looking forward to seeing what will happen in their future matches.
