Hammarby showcased their excellent play as they defeated Östersund with a dominating scoreline of 4-0 in front of an audience of over 20,000 at Tele2 Arena in Stockholm on Tuesday evening.
Just three minutes in, the home team took the lead through Jeppe Andrup Andersen after a brilliant attack. Vidar Örn Kjartansson then extended the lead to 2-0 after 12 minutes with a nice ball from Muamer Tankovic.
Östersund tried to find their way back into the match and brought on Ronald Mukiibi after five minutes, but Hammarby was too strong. Nikola Djurdjic made it 3-0 after half an hour, and just before halftime, Muamer Tankovic himself scored 4-0 from the penalty spot.
The second half continued in the same vein with a dominant Hammarby and a frustrated Östersund. Thomas Poppler Isherwood received a yellow card, and Oladapo Diya was shown a red card after a fierce elbow.
Östersund's Alhaji Gero salvaged some pride by scoring towards the end of the match, but it was far too late to affect the outcome.
This was an important victory for Hammarby while Östersund loses ground in the standings. Referee Kristoffer Karlsson managed the match confidently.
