Kalmar FF broke their poor streak of six consecutive matches without a win when they defeated IFK Göteborg 2-1 at Gamla Ullevi in Sunday’s Allsvenskan match. The game was played in front of an empty arena with no spectators due to the current restrictions.
Kalmar FF started the match with great determination and were rewarded in the 18th minute when IFK Göteborg's Christian Kouakou received a yellow card following a tough tackle. Kalmar FF continued to press and scored in the 40th minute when the ball unfortunately deflected into their own goal from an IFK Göteborg player.
At halftime, IFK Göteborg made a change to their lineup by substituting Kristopher Da Graca for André Calisir. However, the change did not have the desired effect for the home team, and in the 65th minute, Kalmar FF extended their lead to 2-0 with Isak Magnusson's fourth goal of the season.
IFK Göteborg tried to find their way back into the match and had a consolation goal opportunity in the 90th minute when Pontus Wernbloom headed in the ball following an assist from Patrik Karlsson Lagemyr. But it was too late for a comeback, and the match ended 2-1 in favor of Kalmar FF.
During the match, Hosam Aiesh and Pontus Wernbloom also received yellow cards for IFK Göteborg, while Christian Kouakou, Emil Holm, and August Erlingmark were substituted.
After the victory against IFK Göteborg, Kalmar FF has now broken their negative trend and can look forward to upcoming matches with increased confidence. On the other hand, IFK Göteborg must now recover and find their winning form to climb up the table.
