It was a nerve-wracking event at MSK Arena when Mariehem SK and Själevads IK faced off in a Division 1 Norrland match for women on Saturday afternoon. After a first half that was even and without any major chances for both the home and away teams, it was in the second half that the match would be decided.
It was Mariehem that received an early warning after 53 minutes when Mina Häggström saw the yellow card. After that, Själevad began to take over more and created several chances to take the lead. But to no avail.
After 60 minutes, Själevad made their first substitution when Malin Lindström replaced Jenny Holmgren. Two minutes later, it was time for Mariehem to make double substitutions as Hanna Walan and Hanna Sundman replaced Elin Rydlöv Sundberg and Hanna Isberg.
Shortly after that, Själevad was awarded a penalty after a handball situation in Mariehem's penalty area. Amanda Norberg sent the ball to the left, but goalkeeper Hannah Karlsson was able to save it.
Mariehem tried to fight their way back into the match, but it was Själevad that would have the final word. After 76 minutes, the long-awaited goal came when Amanda Berglund scored 1-0 for the away team following a pass from Johanna Lundqvist.
Mariehem attempted to push for an equalizer in the final minutes, but were unable to create any truly dangerous chances. The match ended with a 1-0 victory for Själevad, largely thanks to a solid defense and Amanda Berglund's goal in the 76th minute. Referee Fanny Elfving and assistant referees Kim Fallbjörk and Alva Forsberg had full control of the match. In total, there were only 63 people present to watch the game.
