There was excitement at the highest level when Njurunda IK hosted Sundsvalls DFF Development at Gumsekullen in Sunday evening's match in Division 3 Medelpad Playoffs A for women. In front of an audience of 48 and under remarkably good weather conditions, it was Njurunda who opened the scoring. Just five minutes in, they found the net with a magnificent finish from one of the team's forwards.
However, Sundsvall had no intention of just watching while Njurunda took the lead. After a couple of dangerous chances in the penalty area, it was Tyra Lindqvist who delivered a beautiful equalizer in the 23rd minute. Not much happened for the rest of the first half, but when the second half kicked off, it turned out to be a real nail-biter.
Just ten minutes into the second half, Sundsvall pulled ahead once again with a stunning goal from Emma Forssbeck. Just minutes later, Tyra Öhman converted a penalty with a well-placed shot into Njurunda's goal. Njurunda desperately attempted to stay in the match, but it was only when Ella Brugge scored to make it 2-3 with a quarter of an hour left that the team came back to life.
But it wasn't enough; Sundsvall managed to hold on and secure yet another victory in the standings, consolidating their position at the top. For Njurunda, a tough battle awaits to avoid relegation, but there are still several matches left in the season.
The officiating team consisting of Samuel Sundling, Yonis Abdirisak Mohamed, and Bashir Yahye Ibrahim handled the match excellently and maintained a firm grip on the game. It was a well-played match with a high tempo and intense play throughout, and both teams delivered an impressive performance.
