GSBK dominated yesterday's match against IFK Askersund from start to finish. Despite their opponents' persistent attempts to keep the ball within their team, GSBK's defense was well-organized and kept them at bay. On several occasions, GSBK managed to win the ball just in front of the goal and created several good scoring opportunities, which kept the audience (well, in this case, the nonexistent audience) on the edge of their seats.
However, it took a while for the first goal to come. GSBK continued to apply pressure and eventually earned a penalty in the 26th minute. Sandra Andersson took the penalty and placed the ball high into the net, giving GSBK a 1-0 lead. IFK Askersund attempted to pressure GSBK and had some nicely built attacks, but to no avail.
In the 39th minute, the next goal came when Sofie Larsson lifted the ball behind IFK Askersund's defense, finding the net and extending the lead to 2-0. With just five minutes left in the first half, IFK Askersund finally got a chance when they earned a free kick deep in GSBK's half. The ball was played towards goal, but goalkeeper Paula Eriksson caught it without any problems.
The second half continued in much the same vein as the first. IFK Askersund tried to find gaps in GSBK's defense, but GSBK stood firm. In the 73rd minute, GSBK was awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area, which Evelina Karlsson took. With a perfect strike, she managed to get the ball over the wall and into the net, making it 3-0 for GSBK.
IFK Askersund never gave up, but GSBK's defense and midfield ensured that they maintained control of the match, and there was never really any doubt about who would win the game. The match ended in a clear victory for GSBK, who remained unbeaten in Division 4 Örebro, women's league.
