GAIS continued their fine form in Superettan as they hosted Ängelholms FF at Gamla Ullevi in a Thursday match. The home team had a dream start to the game when Daniel Freire Mendes gave them the lead in the sixteenth minute after a nice attacking play. Mendes was also the one who doubled the lead to 2-0 after 25 minutes, assisted by Malkolm Moenza.
Ängelholms FF fought to get back into the match and reduced the deficit through Junes Barny in the 28th minute, assisted by Robin Staaf. Before halftime, the guests made two substitutions, while GAIS went into the second half with a 2-1 lead.
The second half was more evenly matched with chances for both sides. GAIS chose to substitute Richard Spong for Adam Eriksson in the 70th minute, while Ängelholms FF opted to swap Monday Samuel for Othman El Kabir in the 75th minute.
GAIS also made a substitution with just nine minutes left when Adnan Maric left the field to be replaced by Marcus Översjö. Maric, however, managed to receive a yellow card before he was substituted.
In the 90th minute, it became dramatic for Ängelholms FF when their assistant coach Magnus Arvidsson was sent off. Ängelholms FF tried to push for an equalizer at the end of the match, but GAIS managed to hold on and secure crucial three points.
After the match, GAIS remains in fifth place in the table while Ängelholms FF continues to sit in eighth place. The crowd at Gamla Ullevi was relatively quiet, with an attendance of 2,102 spectators. Referee Jim Petersson and his assistants Mark Josef and Andreas Grönman did a good job during the match.
