GAIS won a tough and close match against Ängelholms FF at Gamla Ullevi with a score of 1-0 after a late penalty in the 87th minute. Andreas Drugge was confident as he put the ball in the net after referee Jim Petersson awarded a penalty when Ängelholm defender Erik Johansson pulled down a GAIS player in the penalty area and was subsequently sent off after receiving his second yellow card.
The match started at a high tempo, with both teams showing a willingness to take control. After seven minutes, Johansson received a yellow card for a hard tackle on a GAIS player. GAIS pressed forward and created several chances in the first half, notably through Joel Anell and Andreas Drugge, but Ängelholm's defense held firm.
In the second half, Ängelholm increased their pressure, and GAIS had to work hard to defend. Both teams fought hard, but it was GAIS who ultimately pulled ahead and decided the match with Drugge's penalty goal.
GAIS coach Roger Gustafsson was pleased with the victory but was also aware that there are things to work on.
- It was a tough match, but we withstood their pressure and were able to secure three points in the end. However, we need to improve on taking our chances and keeping possession of the ball more in the second half, Gustafsson said after the match.
With the victory, GAIS takes an important step up the table and now sits in 14th place. Ängelholms FF is in 11th place and leaves the match with disappointment.
