Åtvidabergs tried to fight their way back into the match but were forced to concede a penalty goal in the 44th minute by Pär Cederquist, leading to a 2-0 scoreline at halftime.
The second half began with warnings from the referee against Åtvidabergs FF for inappropriate behavior on the field. This resulted in two substitutions and a series of mistakes that continued for Åtvidabergs FF. IFK Värnamo capitalized on this and kept pressing, creating several dangerous chances against Åtvidabergs' goal.
