Match in Superettan 2017

GAIS took the initiative early in the match and it paid off just eight minutes in when Dardan Rexhepi placed the ball behind the IFK Värnamo goalkeeper after a nice pass from James Sinclair. However, IFK Värnamo fought back and quickly equalized through Melvin Frithzell after sixteen minutes. The match then went back and forth with chances at both ends, and it wasn't until the second half that the next goal would come. After a nice combination in midfield by GAIS, Dan Keat struck from a good position just outside the penalty area and GAIS was once again in the lead. IFK Värnamo battled for an equalizer but couldn't raise the team to level the score. Instead, GAIS would take all three points and move up in the table. The match became physical, resulting in three yellow cards being shown on the pitch, two for IFK Värnamo and one for GAIS. A total of 2,353 spectators gathered at Gamla Ullevi to watch the match, and referee Jonas Karlsson had assistant referees Niklas Nyberg and Pär Leek with him to keep an eye on what was happening on the field. GAIS can now look forward to their next match while IFK Värnamo must recharge to secure new points in the Superettan.
