Despite this, it was GAIS that took the lead in the 13th minute through Dusan Djuric. However, Örgryte quickly bounced back, and Gustav Ludwigson equalized with a fine assist from Daniel Sliper. Ludwigson would later score his second goal of the match with an assist from Jens-Lys Michel Cajuste. David Engström then extended Örgryte's lead to 3-1, creating anxiety in the home team.

But GAIS did not give up and reduced the score to 2-3 just before halftime when Marcus Bergholtz converted a penalty. In the second half, GAIS fought to catch up, and Edin Hamidovic and Ajdin Zeljkovic were subbed in to provide the team with extra offensive strength.

However, it was Örgryte's Daniel Paulson and Jens-Lys Michel Cajuste who caused the most trouble for the GAIS defense, with Paulson scoring the team’s fourth goal on a fine pass from Cajuste. GAIS continued to fight, and Jesper Jonasson Westermark reduced the score to 3-4 with an assist from Bergholtz.

The match then took a dramatic turn when Ajdin Zeljkovic equalized to 4-4 in the 90th minute, sending the home crowd into ecstasy. However, in the ensuing chaos, GAIS defender Carl Wede was sent off after receiving two yellow cards within seconds.
