Halmstad got off to a dream start in the match when Jonathan Svedberg scored 0-1 after just 26 minutes. GAIS tried to find their way back into the game but had difficulty creating dangerous chances. Instead, it was Halmstad that almost doubled their lead in the first half, but GAIS's goalkeeper made a fine save.

In the second half, the substituted GAIS match-winner Marcus Bergholtz stepped onto the field and immediately scored 1-1 from a nice pass from Carl Wede. GAIS gained more energy and pressed on, but Halmstad's defense held strong.

Halmstad made several substitutions towards the end of the match, which would prove to be a successful tactic. On a corner for Halmstad, Jesper Westerberg stood completely free in front of the goal and easily made it 1-2, assisted by Andreas Bengtsson.

GAIS desperately tried to equalize, but Halmstad held on and won the match 1-2. GAIS were disappointed, but Halmstad celebrated their seventh victory of the year in Superettan.
