Östers IF took an early lead in the first half through Jesper Jonasson Westermark, who headed the ball in after a fine pass from Rúnar Thór Sigurgeirsson. Jönköpings Södra IF tried to equalize but failed to create any dangerous scoring chances. Instead, Östers IF received a yellow card when John Stenberg tripped an opponent.

At halftime, Jönköpings Södra IF brought on Flamur Dzelili, who would prove to be a decisive factor in the match. Östers IF was awarded a penalty at the start of the second half, but Adam Bergmark Wiberg missed, and Jönköpings Södra IF quickly equalized through Dzelili, who pushed the ball in after a nice pass from August Karlin.

However, Östers IF did not want to give up and regained the lead through Ahmed Bonnah, who finished neatly after a good attacking move. Jönköpings Södra IF quickly responded again when Robin Book managed to head in a corner that Dzelili had taken.

The match continued to be evenly matched, and Östers IF ultimately decided the game with an unfortunate own goal from Jönköpings Södra IF in the 74th minute. Despite a couple of yellow cards, Jönköpings Södra IF did not make a comeback in the closing stages, and Östers IF was able to secure three important points in the battle for promotion to Allsvenskan.
